Use watts × hours

Monthly kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per day × days per month. Multiply that by your electricity rate to estimate monthly cost.

Why RPM matters

Pool-pump power demand does not scale linearly with flow. Reducing speed can materially cut wattage, which is why variable-speed pumps are often operated longer at lower speeds for baseline circulation.

Model the actual schedule

If you run multiple speeds during the day, calculate each block separately and add them together. Include high-speed windows used for vacuuming, heating, spa spillover or water features.

Normalize the decision.

Pool-equipment claims are often based on different pool sizes, operating modes or test conditions. Compare the same job, pool dimensions and ownership assumptions before choosing a product.
