Smart pool-water monitor review

WaterGuru SENSE 2 Review: Smart Pool Chemistry Monitoring & Recurring Cost

SENSE 2 automates recurring measurements, but it does not remove the need to understand pool chemistry. The value is convenience and trend visibility; the tradeoff is device cost, consumable cassettes and physical skimmer compatibility.

PoolVerdicts take
WaterGuru SENSE 2 is most compelling for owners who dislike frequent manual testing and want daily app-based readings. It is less compelling for a small seasonal pool where manual testing is inexpensive and easy, or where the skimmer opening does not match the supported installation range.

What SENSE 2 currently measures

WaterGuru currently lists daily measurements for pH and free chlorine, plus cyanuric acid, total alkalinity and calcium hardness. It also reports water temperature and pool-pump activity through the app.

That breadth makes it more than a simple temperature sensor, but the readings should still be used as decision support rather than a reason to ignore unusual water conditions or equipment problems.

Skimmer fit is a hard buying constraint

The current SENSE 2 page specifies round skimmer openings between 8.25 and 9.4 inches, with adapters for certain larger or square openings. WaterGuru also includes a float ring for above-ground pools and spas.

Measure the actual opening before buying. A chemistry monitor that does not physically fit your pool's skimmer is the wrong product regardless of app features.

Consumable cassettes belong in the ownership cost

SENSE 2 uses replaceable C2 and C5 cassettes. That means the real cost is not just the device. Model cassette replacements over several seasons and compare that with the cost and effort of your current test-kit routine.

For buyers who value automation, that recurring cost may be reasonable. For owners who already test reliably by hand, it may simply add another subscription-like consumable.

What automation does and does not solve

A smart monitor can reduce the friction of checking water frequently and can make trends easier to see. It does not physically add chemicals, repair circulation problems or replace basic pool-maintenance knowledge.

Use the readings to support measured adjustments, and verify unexpected values before making a large chemistry correction.

Who should consider it

Shortlist SENSE 2 if you want frequent app-based chemistry readings, have a compatible installation, and are comfortable with cassette replacement. Skip it if manual testing is already easy for you or if you want a one-time purchase with no recurring consumables.
